No, but then those words are Germanic in origin and thus use the soft-g, while things like algae and margarine use a hard-g.  Kind of like .gif.

But it’s also stated in the dictionary that BOTH pronunciations are ok

Sorry Jim, Jif is a peanut butter and it confuses the crap out of me to hear someone talk about an animated jif lol, Imma call it Gif, Germanic in origin or not. :3

I’ve always pronounced it “jif” in my head, though I never knew what the “proper” pronunciation was supposed to be. So I guess it’s both? That’s cool.

I’d just come home from Gina’s 30th Birthday party; it was Who-themed and everyone dressed up and we had Dalek pizza and Adipose marshmallows and fish fingers and custard! Had a fabulous time. Hey look there’s my hat. And my Hoagie.
